I’m a big believer in being prepared, especially when it comes to traveling with my kids, presently 2 and 4. Whether it’s on a cross-country trip or just to a local restaurant, it’s best for my sanity if we can make it home without any meltdowns. Sure, there have been times when I’ve lost all semblance of control, like when my three year old chased my one year old between tables and chairs during the lunch rush at a local restaurant, both of them squealing wildly with glee (while ignoring me). However, for the most part, we’ve managed to avoid tears, whininess, and other forms of parental irritants during the boring part of trips away from home (car rides, wait times, etc.). I owe that, in large part, to the collection of toys, books, games, and other items I’ve accumulated to fill empty time with entertainment and diversions. (I’m also not above resorting to lollipops during last ditch efforts to prevent downward spirals into madness.)
In addition to paper, crayons, and a couple Hot Wheels and My Little Ponies, these are some of the best travel toys we regularly rotate into our travel bags to entertain our preschool age children.
