This Coding a LEGO Maze activity is a great way to introduce children to basic programming concepts WITHOUT using a computer. As the children guide their character through these LEGO mazes using the hands-on material, they will start to think like a computer programmer.
There are four levels of difficulty. The most basic level encourages even the youngest children to switch their reference frame…a difficult, but important skill. By the most advanced level, children are introduced to for loops, while loops, if-statements, random number generators, and infinite loops.
The packet includes:
- coding cards (featuring for loops, if/else/else if statements, and while loops)
- 10 mazes of varying difficulty
- a generic maze template
- “How to Prepare” section describing how to set up the activity
- “How to Use” section outlining the 4 levels of difficulty and providing instructions for each level
