In reply to <a href="https://researchparent.com/second-grade-curriculum-choices/#comment-108613">Alex</a>.

Hi Alex,

I did purchase the entire program. It is a quality program, and very thorough, I just didn't have the time to invest in completing it. I have a friend with an only child who loved it and it helped her daughter to read very early. Since I have 4 kids and I am a little unschool-y anyway, preferring my kids to play, I just thought it was too much. Basically the only parts I ended sticking with are the phonogram flash cards (which I continue to use even with my oldest going into fifth grade) and the Doodling Dragon series of books. Occasionally I would pull a worksheet from the workbooks as well to turn in as a sample for our charter school, but otherwise we ended up dropping it. Personally, I think that purchasing real books that help kids become addicted to reading is a better investment, but I don't have anything negative to say about the program. Let me know if you have any specific questions!

Hi,

You mention Doodling Dragons books for writing, have you used their Foundations books? It seem to have a lot of parts and expensive so I want to get a better idea if worth an investment. Or if you did not go with their program, why so?
