I’m finding that 10 years old is the age at which I’m starting to give in a bit to my kids’ desires for electronics. They are getting a little too old for “toys.” They already have all the sports equipment and art supplies they need. I figure they are going to need to self-regulate their technology usage at some point. While I still definitely encourage other types of play and I limit technology if it gets out of hand, I give a lot more electronic gifts once my children turn 10. My go-to gifts for 10 year olds that are not in my family is some sort of cool science kit, like a geode kit or a fossil kit. My own son was obsessed with getting a GoPro for his tenth birthday. While that was more money that I wanted to pay, we found a similar style generic camera that seems to be meeting all his hopes and expectations.
