Robots are cool. Everyone can agree on that, right? Maybe I just think so, because I’m a nerd, but I definitely think robots are awesome and several of the little kids I know agree with me. Unfortunately, while I learned a lot of programming and machining in school, I never took any classes on robotics. That’s okay, because now my kids and I get to learn how to build robots together. I’m confident we can do some pretty fun stuff.

Presently, the projects on this site are for absolute beginners. To be honest, they are not even REAL robots, since they don’t have computer chips, sensors, or decision making capabilities. However, as my kids get older and our robotics projects get more complicated, I’m sure we’ll get there sooner or later. Sign up for my newsletter if you would like to stay up-to-date.
Here are the robotics activities on this site in reverse chronological order. Be sure to check out the electrical engineering activities on this site as well, which are pretty similar.

Awww, that’s so sweet. I hope your kids have fun! :)
any advice for mechanical kids toy items ?
best Toys UK
I don’t really know! I prefer to let my kids sort of make their own fun (such as with our homemade inventors box). I’m usually a little disappointed with the toys/kits we buy, but if I think of something, I’ll let you know!
Wow.,..what a good idea…i’m an inventor also but am gonna try this to add to my experience. Goodbye
I hope you have fun!
I’m totally using some of your ideas for my classroom. I’m the STEM teacher, and this is my first year teaching kindergarten, 1st, and second grades. Thanks for the ideas!
That makes me so happy to hear! Let me know if you have any questions or run into any problems!
My brother did a variation on the wobblebot and brushbots with my 4 and 7 year old sons. They had a blast! Thanks!!! Love your site!
Awww…I’m so glad. Thank you so much!

Nice website and awesome descriptions
Thanks!
Thank you so much for all of your amazing materials and projects! I am newly homeschooling our first grader and your site has been my #1 place of inspiration! He starts a homeschool engineering class for 5-7 yo’s this week. Excited to see what they learn, and these might be a great addition to that work! Thanks so much!
I’m so glad my resources have been helpful to you, Amy! I have a first grader I am homeschooling as well. :)
Michelle,
Thank you very much for this site and all the great ideas!!! Do you by chance have any ideas for elementary school age kids that would engage them in all phases of engineering, i.e. idea generation, design, buifilg, testing, etc and would require them to apply some knowledge of mathematics, electronics, robotics and arts? Or do you know if any good resources to get project ideas like this?
Thank you!
Zara
Hi Zara! That is a great idea, but I’m not really sure! Here’s a link for a homemade inventor’s box I put together for my kids, but it’s very open-ended: https://researchparent.com/homemade-inventors-box/ I’ll keep an eye out for resources that might get kids started on projects like that and let you know if I find anything!
Thank you, Michelle! I love the inventor’s box and I love your website. Good luck and look forward to your newsletters!
i am working on a project, can i use some info from your blog post for my project? i will credit you
As long as you will not profit off your project, sure!
Much obliged to you, Michelle! I love the creator’s case and I love your site. Good karma and anticipate your bulletins!
Thank you so much for the kind words!

Is there any inventions that don’t involve a motor but awesome inventions
There are tons of awesome inventions that don’t have a motor. The wheel, indoor plumbing, post-it notes…However, most electronic inventions have a motor of some form or another. Computers use motors to run cooling fans. Cell phones have motors to make them vibrate. It would be possible to make a robotics project for kids that used like a wind-up fan attached to a rubberband, but I don’t currently have any projects like that on my site.
do you have any projects like this for middles schoolers
Not currently. I’m sorry! My oldest is going into fifth grade and he enjoys doing projects like this and I think he learns something from them, but we haven’t done anything more advanced at this time.
Thanks for sharing a valuable content, which is really helpful.
You’re welcome!
Its really amazing…learning new things via you… Thank you so much.
Ahh, thank you so much!

What an amazing article, Michelle! I just love the whole idea of a robotics project for kids…Following the new trends the coding is also a very important skill for kids to learn at an early age, I am also a STEM blogger and I have written a detailed guide on coding for kids, You can check out if you are interested—https://kidpillar.com/coding-for-kids/

We love to make engineering products
I’m so glad! I hope your kiddos enjoy these activities.
I’m a program director at a summer camp and tried this out today (by myself) for a kit to use with summer campers. I can’t WAIT to do this with the children. The popsicle stick add on was a little heavy for our motor so we just used the clothes pin-definitely like the guess/test of where to place everything like the markers, motor, etc. Little tweaks give different outcomes.
I’m so glad you found my tutorial helpful, Jackie! I hope your students enjoy the activity! :)
I just love your work dear. I am inspire by this work done
