As kids become school age, their abilities rapidly develop. They start to learn to read and can play more intricate games. Many kids start to really enjoy sports as the gain full mastery of their bodies. Other kids are still completely into fantasy play. At this age, the interests of kids begins to diverge, so determining the best gifts for 6 year olds will depend on the individual child.
When my oldest was 6 years old, he was still fully immersed in large scale fantasy play (pretending to be Ash from Pokémon or Hiccup from How to Train Your Dragon). While my daughter at 6 enjoyed playing with her brothers, she was also very into art and cooking. My son that is currently about to be 6 loves sports and playing with action figures.
It’s hard to determine one master of list of the best gifts for 6 year olds. However, hopefully some of these suggestions will pop out to you as something your 6 year old enjoy. I still find that gifts involve art, games, or expending energy hold wide appeal.
My personal favorite gift to give to a 6 year old is Rush Hour Jr. It has been a favorite single player game of all of my kids (including my current 5 year old). It’s tricky and helps develop critical thinking skills, while still being really fun.
