I love mid to late-elementary novels. I remember being in elementary school and listening to my teachers read books to us like The Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell and The Witches by Roald Dahl. There is very little that I remember about the rest of elementary school, but those pleasurable experiences are seared into my brain. Reading aloud has become a huge part of our family life. Third or fourth grade is also the age at which my kids reading really takes off. My kids are opinionated when it comes to books. Below you will find some of our family’s absolute favorite books for mid-elementary.
