I have very mixed feelings on books about being a mother. I feel like they have the potential to be so comforting and uplifting, because only a mother can understand what it’s like to be a mother and I keep hoping to find something that can capture my feelings on the experience.
However, I feel like I hold this type of book to a higher standard than other parenting books, because if I don’t find something inspirational or refreshing in what I read, I kind of feel like it’s a waste of time. Not that I don’t like to waste my time while reading once in awhile, but if I am going to read something purely for pleasure, I want it to be really enjoyable (and preferably have nothing to do with children). So far I haven’t found the perfect book on the experience of being a mother, maybe because while a lot is relatable, motherhood is experienced slightly differently be everyone.
