Comments: I’m not as enamored with this book as my 3.5 year old son, but I understand why he likes it. It’s hard to argue with a book titled “I’m Dirty” for the toddler/preschool set. We checked it out from the library 3 weeks ago and he still regularly wants it in his bedtime line-up and quotes it throughout the day. He thinks it is absolutely hilarious while simultaneously fascinating. What I love is that it features a countdown from 10 to 1 and while we’ve discussed this concept before, my son has only recently started spontaneously counting backwards. It also explains some of the workings of a back-hoe frontloader, though I’m not sure he fully understands that part yet, even though he can recite it from memory. He likes this book so much, I’ve ordered him his own used copy. He’s also a big fan of I Stink! by the same author/illustrator pair. Kate and Jim McMullan really seem to know what they’re doing when it comes to pleasing very young kids.
