Review: I found this book more readable than the author’s first book on the subject, Montessori: A Modern Approach, but still less interesting and compelling than her daughter’s book, Montessori: The Science Behind the Genius, by Angeline Stoll Lillard. This book differs from her first book, Montessori: A Modern Approach, in that it focuses on children older than 6 years old.
The description of a typical 6-9 year old classroom was extremely interesting as were the overview of the Great Lessons taught to all elementary age children. I would have liked to know more about the actual content of the Great Lessons, as opposed to general overviews, but her illustrations of how everything is tied together in a Montessori classroom was thorough and convincing. I still find the author’s writing style a little dry, but overall, it is a useful book for understanding how a child might benefit from a Montessori education extended beyond he preschool years.
