Comments: Around 18 months my kids started to be interested in attempting to do puzzles with simple shapes (like circles, squares, etc.) The circle is the easiest piece since orientation doesn’t matter, but many of the shapes can be inserted a few different ways making it much easier than other types of puzzles. The problem with puzzles is that they’re outgrown so quickly. By 20 months my daughter was able to do puzzles with small pieces and knobs that needed to be rotated to be put in. She would have some difficulty, but didn’t seem to mind the challenge. This puzzle by Melissa and Doug is a great beginning puzzle for a 12 to 18 month old in my opinion, but a slightly more advanced puzzle might also be appropriate for someone under the age of 2.
